Equine Assisted Healing Services for Veterans and their Families

Equine assisted therapy is being utilized throughout the nation to help veterans better cope with adjustment problems when returning home, and heal from PTSD that often occurs following military service. Our Healing With Horsepower program for veterans and families was developed by invitation in cooperation with the former management of Horse Lovers Park in Phoenix.

We understand that every veteran's experience is unique and we avoid assuming what that experience was like. By working with horses, veterans and family members are able to discuss both their own internal process and their relationship dynamics in a non-threatening environment that helps them feel at ease. The groups are strength based, interactive, challenging, and fun.

The monthly group events are designed to help with any emotional adjustment issues, relationship and/or family problems, separation issues, PTSD, addictions, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and stress that veterans may carry as a result of serving our country. We welcome all veterans and any of their family members including spouses, partners, significant others, friends, children and extended family. Veterans define who represents family to them.

The Healing With Horsepower groups for veterans and their families are private, informal, and personalized to offer the opportunity for veterans to address whatever it is they need help with. Rather than having a program with a pre-etablished regimen for all approach, these monthly workshops are experiential in nature allowing participants to define the topics that are addressed in the arena. Veterans and their families are able to participate in the exercises at their own comfort levels and gain immediate options for healing and change that they can apply to their lives following the group expereince in the arena.

We also recognize that there are many veterans who have experienced sexual assaults within the military and that they are in need of separate, private groups that speak to this issue only, where they can go and be heard. If there are enough requests, we'll be happy to offer these specialized groups in a private arena offsite where participants can feel safe to address these traumatic events in a supportive environment. Call the office and the therapist will personally return your call.

Veterans and family members that have participated in our monthly workshops appreciate the relaxed atmosphere where they can attend once or show up monthly for the equine assisted group sessions. We strive to offer an alternative healing experience where veterans will feel comfortable, safe, and respected. So far the ratings by veterans and families have been high and our goal is to maintain that level of satisfaction. Join us in the arena and experience firsthand having Horsepower for Healing.

Veterans may download and print a flyer about how to sign up for our groups. Please share widely. We do need participants to signup each month so that we can plan for seating, supplies, and horses. In order for these groups to be successful we need veterans showing up. So please join us to help your comrads even if you don't think you need the groups for yourself. There is a thing about strength in numbers and we need as many of you there as possible.

There is no charge to attend the groups. The program is being run on donations with the seed money coming from veterans helping veterans. All donations in any amount are appreciated.
